Our Brown Rice

Have you noticed a difference recently in the brown rice we serve at wafuken? Unlike most of the varieties of brown rice sold around Singapore, we at Wafuken recently changed our source of brown rice to Japanese brown rice. Japanese short-grain rice is a favourite here among Japanese food aficionados due to its texture and taste as compared to our everyday staple rice - Thai Fragrant Rice. With that in mind, we sourced for a supplier that imports the rice in the raw brown rice state which helps in being able to maintain the freshness of the grain. The rice is then sorted/filtered in Singapore using their own milling technology. With this method, they are able to produce Japanese equivalent or even better quality due to the rice being fresher than to have it imported processed.

Benefits of Brown Rice

Brown Rice is a slow-release sugar which helps in stabilising blood sugar levels and an excellent food choice for those looking to reduce their risk of developing diabetes. Besides being rich in fibre and antioxidants, brown rice is also high in manganese, selenium and naturally occurring oils. One cup can provide up to 80% of our daily manganese requirements. Manganese helps our body synthesise fats and also benefit our nervous and reproductive systems. Selenium reduces risks of common illness such as cancer, heart disease and arthritis. The oils in rice are beneficial as t hey help normalise cholesterol levels.
